What Are Turkey Pinwheels?

Turkey pinwheels are a popular appetizer or snack that features tortillas filled with protein, veggies, and cheese. Essentially, they’re wraps that are sliced into bite-sized pieces.

Quick to make and super tasty, they’re amazing appetizers or snacks and are often served for parties and game day celebrations! However, we love to prepare them for kid-friendly meals, too.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Tortillas – Use any brand and flavor of flour tortillas you like best. Corn tortillas will not work for this recipe!
  • Turkey – To save time, we use deli turkey, but leftover sliced turkey will also work. If preferred, feel free to substitute chicken or ham.
  • Veggies – Shredded carrots and baby spinach add a pop of color, texture, and nutrients.
  • Cream Cheese – Use any flavored spreadable cheese you like best. Garlic herb, sun-dried tomato, and jalapeño cream cheese are some of our favorites!
  • Everything But the Bagel Seasoning – Technically optional, a good sprinkling of this adds more depth and takes the flavor of these pinwheels to the next level.

How to Make Turkey Pinwheel Sandwiches

  1. Add the cheese. Spread the tortillas on a clean work surface. Then, spread the cheese on top, covering the tortillas completely.
  2. Layer the ingredients. Layer the turkey slices over the cheese, leaving a border around the edges. Then, sprinkle the carrots on top followed by the spinach and seasoning.
  3. Roll the pinwheels. Starting from one edge, roll each tortilla tightly, creating a log.
  4. Slice. Use a toothpick to secure the tortillas. Then, slice the tortillas into thick pinwheels.

Tips for Success

  • Chill the wraps. If you’re worried about your tortillas cracking, place the wraps in the fridge before slicing. This will help them firm up and fuse together.
  • Don’t overstuff the pinwheels. Make sure to leave plenty of room around the edges of the tortilla, and avoid overfilling the center. You don’t want the tortillas so full that they burst!
  • Experiment. Feel free to mix and match different proteins, veggies, and mix-ins to make this recipe your own.
  • Avoid watery ingredients. While anything goes in pinwheel sandwiches, it’s best to avoid super watery ingredients. Items like cucumbers and tomatoes tend to leak and can cause your pinwheels to become soggy.
