Why We Love This Whipped Feta Recipe

If you haven’t tried a whipped feta recipe yet, you are missing out! The first time we tried it we were instantly enamored!

Creamy, salty, sweet, and savory, it’s everything we never knew we needed. Basically, it was love at first bite, and we knew we had to make it for ourselves.

The first version we made was this one with roasted tomatoes and chickpeas, and it was divine. So, we tested it again – this time with roasted olives, and the results were just as tasty! This recipe is:

  • Quick to make.
  • Perfect for feeding a crowd.
  • Full of healthy fats.
  • Easy to make ahead of time.
  • And super delicious!

Ingredients You’ll Need

For this whipped feta recipe, we’re breaking the ingredients down into two parts. First, we’ll go over what you’ll need for the olive topping. Then, we’ll move on to the whipped feta itself.

For the Olive Topping

  • Olives – We used a combination of green and kalamata olives, but feel free to use whatever you like best!
  • Shallots – Slightly sweeter than onions, shallots enhance the natural flavors of the olives for an irresistibly savory taste.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Used to help crisp up and blister the olives, olive oil also enhances the natural flavors of the dish and adds a boost of healthy fats!
  • Herbs and Spices – For a savory topping, we included thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper.

For the Whipped Feta

  • Feta Cheese – Any feta you have on hand can be used. However, for the richest taste, we prefer full-fat versions.
  • Sour Cream – This helps add extra creaminess and a bit of tang to the feta.
  • Water or Milk – Some kind of liquid is essential to turning the feta from hard crumbles to a smooth dip. Water works great, but milk creates an extra indulgent appetizer.
  • Cream Cheese – Perfect for an extra creamy texture, cream cheese also contributes just a hint of sweetness.
  • Garlic – Fresh garlic cloves complement the shallot in the olive topping perfectly!
  • Lemon – A squeeze of lemon cuts through some of the heaviness of the fats from the olives and oils, providing a refreshing taste.
  • Honey – We love a bit of honey to create whipped feta that is both sweet and savory.
  • Salt and Pepper – Use as much or as little as you’d like!
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Like water or milk, olive oil helps thin out the recipe.

Please change 1/2 lemon to “The Juice of 1/2 lemon” or “1/2 Lemon Juiced” as it reads now you are adding a full half of a lemon into the food processor and grinding it up with the feta mix. This is not what you show in the video or what you mean to be saying.

We have made the recipe and it is very good. I would give it 5 stars if not for the poor writing.

    1. Thanks for catching that, Matthew! We have updated the recipe card and are so glad you enjoy the recipe.

  2. I’m making this today so I may not get an answer In Time…if I make the cheese part and put it in the fridge for later, will it get hard as cream cheese does? I want to prepare it ahead of the guests arriving. Thank you!

  3. I’m confused by:
    1/2 tsp salt and pepper.
Is this 1/4 tsp of each?
Then on the next line it says 1/2 tsp of pepper.

    1. Sorry for the confusion, Karen! We have updated the recipe. It should be 1/2 teaspoon of each, adjusted to taste. Hope this helps!

This is the BEST appetizer I’ve ever made! Wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve already made it twice for game nights! Everyone LOVES it!

  4. I made this lovely dip for a small gathering. I have a fair amount of it left over and am wondering if I could freeze it to take to a family gathering next weekend for Christmas??? I hate to see it go to waste😔
    Would appreciate your help/advice!!

  5. Question….. the garlic… when is that added? Does it go in with the olives while roasting, or as a garnish at the end?

  6. 5 stars
Wow! This is so easy to make and absolutely delicious! I used Za’atar seasoning on the olives only because it’s what I had. I also used plain Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream and Neufetchel for the cream cheese. This made such a beautiful dip and already know I will be making this often for gatherings. Thank you for sharing your recipe!

      1. I’m thinking of making for a party. Does it travel well? Is it OK if olive mix has cooked or is it better warm?

        1. It should travel fine! We recommend keeping the feta spread and olives separate. Then, warming the olives and assembling the two just before serving.

I have made this many times — everyone loves it! To serve I cut a french baggette into small 1/4 inch slices brushed with olive oil and baked for 7-12 minutes at 400 (right after the olives come out). They are toasty and even a touch chewy — a delicious third layer for this incredible dip. Thank you Food Dolls — I love your recipes!

    Fantastic!

Made it for two separate parties in two days, everyone asked for the recipe!!!

Smooth, creamy, incredibly flavourful and super easy!

    A definite hit!

This was fantastic! I added more garlic, as I love lots of garlic. I also chopped the olives after roasting them to make it easier to scoop & eat.

First attempt at the Feta/ olive dip. The flavor seems good but no amount of pulsing or just running the food processor gets it as smooth as yours appears. What is the best way to make the gritty feta smooth?

    1. What kind of feta did you use? Is it really dry as you’re processing? You can add a splash of milk if it’s too thick! Let us know how it turned out!

  11. Hello! I am confused as to when to add the garlic. I didn’t see any garlic in the video. Do we add it to the topping or to the dip? Really excited to take this for Christmas . Thank you

      1. well I hope i didn’t just ruin it. when you print the recipe, it says 5 cloves garlic for the whipped feta potion. please fix.

      2. I’m curious why you eliminated the garlic from the recipe. My niece made it on Dec 11 for our Family Christmas and it had 5 cloves and the dip was phenomenal.
