What are strawberry cheesecake chimichangas?

Cheesecake is an indulgent dessert traditionally consisting of a cream cheese filling and a graham cracker crust. Baking the cream cheese filling makes for a thick and creamy texture – the perfect base for yummy strawberries! Once you have the cheesecake base, you can top it with anything from fruit to chocolate. It is super versatile, making it the perfect component of this combination recipe.

Chimichangas are essentially fried burritos. They are a staple in tex-mix and southwestern cuisine and are originally from Northwestern Mexico! Typically, chimichangas are savory and filled with meat and vegetables. Chimichangas are a popular street food and can be deep fried or pan fried.

We mixed it up and made these air-fried chimichangas sweet by combining them with the rich flavors of cheesecake! The strawberry cheesecake filling is light and fluffy, and the tortilla makes for the perfect crust to balance out the creamy texture.

Why we love air fryer recipes

Traditionally, chimichangas are deep fried in a pot of oil or pan fried. This method is messy, hands on, and time consuming. That’s why we decided to make these dessert chimichangas in our air fryer. It really is so much better than deep frying!

When you use the air fryer, there is no need for oil. Because of that, you end up with less cleanup at the end and less waste! All you have to do is pop the strawberry cheesecake chimichangas in the air fryer basket and they will crisp up perfectly. It is also healthier to make this dessert in the air fryer.
