What is Watermelon Pizza?

This watermelon pizza is a sweet, fruit-based spin on pizza, using a thick slice of watermelon as the base instead of dough. It’s a healthy and refreshing alternative, perfect for summer parties or a light dessert!

The combination of cool watermelon, creamy yogurt, and vibrant fruits makes this dish a total crowd-pleaser. Topped with granola for a satisfying crunch and fresh mint leaves for a burst of flavor, each bite is like a celebration of summer!

Ingredients You Need

  • Large Round Slice of Watermelon – We love using this ingredient because its juicy sweetness makes for a perfect pizza base. Plus it’s the perfect shape and sturdy enough to support the toppings.
  • Greek Yogurt – Greek yogurt adds creamy richness and a tangy contrast to the sweet watermelon.
  • Honey – A generous drizzle of honey adds a touch of natural sweetness to the yogurt, balancing the flavors beautifully.
  • Mixed Berries (Strawberries, Blueberries, Raspberries, etc.) – These vibrant fruits add a burst of color and juicy freshness.
  • Sliced Kiwi – Kiwi adds a touch of tropical flair and a sweet yet tart flavor that complements the berries.
  • Granola – Sprinkling granola on top adds a satisfying crunchiness to the pizza. We love our air fryer granola, but any kind will work.
  • Fresh Mint Leaves – These are optional, but if you add them, they add a fresh, herbal flavor that’s a perfect contrast to the fruits and yogurt.

How to Make Watermelon Pizza

  1. Prepare Watermelon Base. Using a sharp knife, slice off a large round piece of watermelon.
  2. Top the Watermelon. Stir together the Greek yogurt and honey and evenly spread it over the top of the watermelon. Then, top with berries and kiwi, before adding the granola.
  3. Garnish. If desired, sprinkle fresh mint leaves over top.
  4. Serve. Slice the finished fruit pizza into triangles and serve.

Variations

  • Cream Cheese – Drizzle with a bit of softened cream cheese mixed with a touch of vanilla extract for rich flavor.
  • Nuts – Replace some or all of the granola with chopped nuts like almonds or pecans for a different texture and nutty flavor.
  • Chocolate – Sprinkle with mini chocolate chips for a sweet chocolatey twist.

Can I Store Leftovers?

We love to enjoy this as soon as it’s made, but you can store leftover Watermelon Pizza in an airtight container in the refrigerator, too.

To store watermelon pizza, place it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a day.

We don’t recommend freezing watermelon pizza because the textures will not remain the same once it’s defrosted.

Common Questions about Watermelon Pizza

Is watermelon pizza good for kids?

Absolutely! Kids love the colorful look and the fact that it feels like dessert but is actually full of fruit. Plus, it’s a hands-on recipe they can help assemble, which makes it even more exciting.

Can watermelon pizza be dairy-free?

Yes! Swap the dairy-based yogurt with coconut yogurt, almond milk yogurt, or even a drizzle of nut butter for a dairy-free version. You still get creaminess while keeping it plant-based.

Is watermelon pizza good for summer parties?

It’s basically made for them! Bright, colorful, and refreshing, it looks gorgeous on a platter and doubles as a healthy dessert option that both kids and adults can enjoy.

Can watermelon pizza work as a breakfast?

Yes! It’s a quick and energizing breakfast. It’s light but filling enough to get your morning started on a fresh note.
