What Is a Muddy Buddy Recipe?

If you’ve never heard of muddy buddy you might know it as puppy chow, reindeer chow, or even monkey munch! It goes by tons of different names, but one thing is for sure. It’s always addictively delicious! Muddy Buddy recipes are a no-bake snack that consists of crunch Chex cereal that has been coated with a sweet chocolatey powdered sugar mixture. All you have to do is combine the ingredients for the coating, toss the cereal, and enjoy!

Quick and easy, it’s always a favorite, especially around the holidays. However, wanting to create something new, we took the original version and added a little flare with more chocolate and Oreo cookies for a showstopping dessert!

What Are Muddy Buddies Made Of?

Typically, chex mix muddy buddies are made with a combination of cereal, peanut butter, chocolate, and powdered sugar. With our version, you’ll find a similar base and just a few extra ingredients for the most incredible taste. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Chocolate Chips – We used a combination of white chocolate, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate chips.
  • Chex Cereal – You can’t have muddy buddies without rice chexs! However, if you can’t find them, any other neutral-tasting rice cereal should work.
  • Coconut Oil – This is used to thin out the melted chocolate and helps it stick to the cereal without the need for peanut butter.
  • Oreos – A combination of regular chocolate Oreos and Golden Oreos creates the most intense cookies and cream flavor you’ll love.
  • Powdered Sugar – Soft and sweet, this sticks to the cereal, making it finger-licking good!
