Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken about 3-4 lbs
  • 1 small onion peeled (for stuffing the chicken)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken:

  • Pat the chicken dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  • Stuff the cavity of the chicken with the halved small onion.

Seasoning Mix:

  • In a small bowl, combine the salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, thyme, and olive oil.

  • Rub the seasoning mixture all over the chicken, including under the skin and around the cavity where the onion is stuffed.

Preheat the Air Fryer:

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F for about 5 minutes.

Cook the Chicken:

  • Place the seasoned whole chicken breast-side down in the air fryer basket.

  • Cook at 400°F for 30 minutes.

Flip and Continue Cooking:

  • After 30 minutes, carefully flip the chicken breast-side up and continue cooking for another 25-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165° F at the thickest part of the breast and thighs.

Rest:

  • Remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving. The onion inside will infuse the chicken with extra flavor while it cooks.
