Ground Beef Puff Pastry with Hummus

Equipment

  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon ground coriander
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ cup hummus
  • 2 Tablespoons pine nuts toasted
  • Fresh parsley chopped (for garnish)
  • Olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

Prepare the Puff Pastry

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Place the puff pastry sheet on a lined baking sheet.

  • Cut slits about ½ inch from the edges, forming a square frame (don’t cut all the way through).
  • Prick the center area with a fork to prevent puffing.
  • Brush the entire pastry with the beaten egg.

  • Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden and puffed.

Make the Beef Mixture

  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.

  • Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

  • Add ground beef, breaking it apart, and cook until browned.

  • Stir in cumin, coriander, paprika, salt, and pepper.

  • Cook 2–3 more minutes.

Assemble

  • Press down the center of the baked puff pastry slightly.
  • Spread hummus evenly in the center.

  • Spoon the beef mixture on top of the hummus.
  • Sprinkle with toasted pine nuts, parsley, and a drizzle of olive oil.

Serve

  • Slice into squares and serve warm.
