  • 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2/3 cup chopped raw pecans
  • 2 refrigerated pie crusts 14.1 ounces total
  • 1 egg whisked
  • Vegetable or peanut oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Pecan Filling:

  • In a saucepan, melt the butter and stir in the brown sugar, maple syrup, heavy cream, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally until the sugar is fully dissolved.

  • Add the chopped pecans and mix well. Remove from heat, transfer to a heatproof bowl, and allow the mixture to cool completely.

  • Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to 3 days.

Assemble the Fried Pecan Pies:

  • Roll out the pie crusts and use a large cup or jar to cut out circles.

  • Place about 1 tablespoon of the pecan filling in the center of each circle, being careful not to overfill.
  • Brush the edges of the circles with the whisked egg, fold the dough in half to create a half-moon shape, and press the edges with a fork to seal.

Fry the Pies:

  • Heat oil in a deep pan or skillet to 350°F (175°C).
    Vegetable or peanut oil
  • Fry the pies in batches, cooking each side for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  • Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serve:

  • Dust the fried pecan pies with powdered sugar and serve warm.
