Sweet and Spicy Baked Chicken Wings

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup reduced sodium cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil divided
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 inch piece of fresh ginger grated
  • 2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes more or less to taste
  • 1 tbsp Apple cider vinegar such as Star Fine Foods
  • 2 1/2 pounds chicken wing parts
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. F
  • Place the chicken wings to a bowl.  Add salt, pepper, and 2 tsp sesame oil. Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake for 50-60 minutes, flipping half way through. (Depending on the size of the wings they make cook in less time.)
  • In a large pan over medium high heat add the soy sauce, ginger, garlic, hoisin sauce, honey, crushed red pepper, vinegar and the remaining sesame oil. Whisk until combined. Reduce heat to medium-low. In a small bowl combine the cornstarch and broth. Whisk into the pan. Once it starts to thicken turn off the heat. Add the cooked chicken wings to the pan. Stir until all the wings are coated in the sauce. If it is too thick, add a little bit of chicken broth until it becomes "saucier." Sprinkles with sesame seeds.
