Kofta Hotdish

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small diced red onion
  • 1/4 cup diced green pepper
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garam masala
  • 2 teaspoons seven spice see notes
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 Tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup flat leaf parsley
  • 1/4 cup cilantro
  • 28 ounces frozen mini tater tots
  • feta cheese prepared tahini, red pepper or tomatoes, and flat leaf parsley for garnish

Tahini

  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • juice of half a lemon
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 Tablespoons water

Instructions

  • In a pan on medium-high heat add ground beef. Brown until no longer pink, drain the fat.

  • Add onion, green pepper, garlic, garam masala, seven spice, paprika, salt, and pepper. Sautè for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Add tomato paste and water. Stir together until the tomato paste is combined into the beef. Toss in the parsley and cilantro.

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • In a 11x7 oval baking dish add ground beef mixture. Top with frozen tater tots. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the tater tots are nice and crispy.

  • Garnish with feta cheese crumbles, tahini, and flat leaf parsley.

Tahini

  • Mix all the ingredients together. If you feel that it is too thick, add a splash of water and mix until your desired consistency. It should be similar to a dressing. Taste and adjust the seasoning.

How to make Seven Spice:
1/2 tsp ground cardamom
1/4 tsp all spice
1/8 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground coriander
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp black pepper
